Andrea Porter is a public relations and organizational strategist, with professional management experience in the private and public sectors. She is the Staff and Operations Director at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce. At CEW, Andrea is responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating CEW’s organizational and communications strategy. She works closely with CEW’s Director to manage and administer the overall functions of CEW. She also directs the production of CEW’s reports.
Following her passion for inspiring minority students to pursue higher education, Andrea has recently led CEW’s efforts to translate materials into Spanish as part of a communications campaign to reach more Hispanics.
Prior to joining CEW, she served as Protocol Officer under a contract between Engility Corporation and the Ministry of Defense of Equatorial Guinea (EG). While serving in EG, she supported the Program Manager as Cultural and Political Advisor as well as Spanish-English Interpreter. During her tenure at Engility, Andrea also provided strategic planning support to the Latin America Business Director and worked as Research Assistant for the Strategic Planning and Business Development groups.
Her professional experience includes: leading a training and tutoring program for immigrant students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; serving in the Office of the Chief of Protocol at the United States Department of State; and providing media and public relations assistance to political officers at the Embassy of Mexico, the Standing Director of American University’s WONK recruiting campaign, and the Directors of the United Nations Foundation’s Vodaphone, Nothing But Nets and Friends of World Heritage fundraising campaigns.
Andrea earned a BA in International Communication at The Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University, an MA in International Communications with an emphasis in diplomacy from American University and an EMBA from Georgetown University. Her academic research explored the identity crisis young immigrants experience when living and studying in the United States and the role higher education institutions play in their integration process. She also studied at the Universidad Veritas in San Jose, Costa Rica.
