In a New York Times Sunday op-ed, Professor Andrew Hacker references two CEW reports—STEM (2011) and Hard Times (2012)—in his argument that high schools shouldn’t require students to take algebra. The reports detail the share of entry-level jobs that will require proficiency in algebra in the coming decade, as well as the unemployment rates of colleges graduates who majored in engineering and computer science.
